INGILIZCE PRESENT PERFECT FOR UNFINISHED PAST WITH FOR / SINCE / HOW LONG? – BITMEMIŞ GEÇMIŞ – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We often use the present perfect tense to talk about a continuing situation. This is a state that started in the past and continues in the present (and will probably continue into the future). This is a state (not an action). We usually use “for” or “since” with this structure.
(Yakın geçmiş zamanı sıkca, daha süren bir durum için kullanırız.Bu, geçmişte başlamış olan ve şimdiki zamanda halen devam eden bir durumdur (ve muhtemelen gelecekte devam edecektir).Bu bir durumdur (bir eylem değil).Bu yapı ile birlikte genelde “for” veya “since” kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
I have worked here since June.
(Haziran ayından beri burada çalışıyorum)

He has been ill for 2 days.
(O, 2 günden beri hasta)

How long have you known Tara?
(Tara’yı ne zamandan beri tanıyorsun?)

We use “for” to talk about a period of time – 5 minutes, 2 weeks, 6 years.
(“For” belli bir zaman süresi hakkında konuşmak için kullanılır – 5 dakika, 2 hafta, 6 yıl.)

We use “since” to talk about a point in past time – 9 o’clock, 1st January, Monday.
(“Since” geçmiş zamandaki bir andan bahsetmek için kullanılır – Saat 9, 1 Ocak, Pazartesi.)

I have been here for 20 minutes.
(20 dakikadan beri buradayım)

I have been here since 9 o’clock.
(Saat 9’dan beri buradayım)

John hasn’t called for 6 months.
(John 6 aydan beri aramadı)

John hasn’t called since February.
(John Şubat’dan beri aramadı)

He has worked in New York for a long time.
(O New York’da uzun bir süreden beri çalışıyor)

He has worked in New York since he left school.
(O okulu terk ettiğinden beri New York’da çalışıyor)

“For” can be used with all tenses. “Since” is usually used with perfect tenses only.
(“For” bütün zamanlar ile birlikte kullanılabilir.”Since” genelde sadece görülen geçmiş zaman ile birlikte kullanılır.)

NB: Although the above use of Present Perfect is normally limited to Non-Continuous Verbs and non-continuous uses of Mixed Verbs, the words “live,” “work”, “teach,” and “study” are sometimes used in this way even though they are NOT Non-Continuous Verbs.

(NOT: Her ne kadar Yakın Geçmiş Zamanın kullanımı normalde Devamlılığı-Olmayan Fiiller ve Karıştırılmış Fiillerin devamlılığı olmayan şekilde kullanımı ile sınırlı olsada, “live”, “work”, “teach” ve “study” sözcükleri , Devamlılığı-Olmayan Fiiller OLMAMALARINA rağmen, bazen bu şekilde kullanılırlar.)
