Example (Örnek):
He studies law at university.
(O üniversitede hukuk okuyor.)

INGILIZCE QUESTION TAGS – SORU EKLENTILERI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

A tag question is a statement followed by a mini-question. The whole sentence is a “tag question”, and the mini-question at the end is called a “question tag”.
(Bir eklenti sorusu bir mini-sorunun takip ettiği bir ifadedir.Tüm cümle bir “eklenti sorusudur”, ve sondaki mini-soruya “soru eklentisi” denir.)

We use tag questions at the end of statements to check that something is true.
(Eklenti sorularını ifadelerin sonunda, bir şeyin doğru olup olmadığını kontrol etmek için kullanırız.

They mean something like: “Am I right?” or “Do you agree?”. They are very common in English.
(“Am I right?” veya “Do you agree?” anlamına yakın gelirler. İngilizcede çok yaygındırlar.)

Examples (Örnekler):
– Your name’s Mary, isn’t it?
(-İsmin Mary, öyle değil mi?)

– They’re getting married in July, aren’t they?
(- Onlar Temmuz’da evleniyorlar, öyle değil mi?)

– You’d like to go to the theatre, wouldn’t you?
(-Tiyatroya gitmek istersin, öyle değil mi?)

– Fred sat his exams last week, didn’t he?
(- Fred sınavlarının geçen hafta olduğunu söylemişti, öyle değil mi?)

– It’s not going to rain this afternoon, is it?
(– Bu öğleden sonra yağmur yağmayacak, öyle değil mi?)

– You’ve been to London, haven’t you?
(- Sen Londra’da bulunmuştun, öyle değil mi?)

– She likes playing tennis, doesn’t she?
(- O tenis oynamayı seviyor, öyle değil mi?)

FORM (ŞEKİL):

Positive statements (Olumlu ifadeler)
Subject + (auxiliary) + main verb, auxiliary + not + personal pronoun
(Özne + (yardımcı) + asıl fiil, yardımcı + not + şahıs zamiri)

Example (Örnek):
Cathy (subject) has (aux) been (main verb) to Sydney, hasn’t (aux + not) she (pronoun)?
(Cathy (özne) Sydney’de bulunmuş (asıl fiil) , öyle değil mi (yardımcı + yok)?)

Negative statements (Olumsuz ifadeler)
Subject + (auxiliary) + not + main verb, auxiliary + personal pronoun
(Özne + (yardımcı) + not + asıl fiil, yardımcı + şahıs zamiri)

Example (Örnek):
Cathy (subject) hasn’t (aux + not) been (main verb) to Sydney, has (aux) she (pronoun)?
(Cathy (özne) Sydney’de bulunmamış (asıl fiil) , öyle değil mi (yardımcı + yok)?)

Notice that we often use tag questions to ask for information or help, starting with a negative statement. This is quite a friendly/polite way of making a request.

(Eklenti sorularını sıkça bilgi talep etmek veya yardım istemek amacı için, bir olumsuz ifade ile başlayarak kullandığımıza dikkat ediniz.Bu bir talepte bulunmak için oldukça dostça/kibar bir yoludur.)

For example, instead of saying “Where is the police station?” (not very polite), or “Do you know where the police station is?” (slightly more polite), we could say:

“You wouldn’t know where the police station is, would you?”

(Örneğin, ”Where is the police station?” (pek kibar bir ifade değil), yada “Do you know where the police station is?” (kısmen daha kibar bir ifade), diyebiliriz ki:)

(Polis karakolu nerede bilmiyorsunuz değil mi, yoksa biliyormusunuz?)
We can change the meaning of a tag question with the sound of our voice. With rising intonation, it sounds like a real question. But if our intonation falls, it sounds more like a statement that doesn’t require a real answer.
(Eklenti sorularının anlamını sesimizin tonu ile değiştirebiliriz.Yükselen vurgu ile, kulağa gerçek bir soru gibi gelir.Ama vurgumuzun azalması ile birlikte daha çok gerçek bir cevap gerektirmeyen bir ifade gibi anlaşılır.)

How do we answer a tag question? Often, we just say YES or NO. Sometimes we may repeat the tag and reverse it (…, do they? Yes, they do).
(Bir eklenti sorusuna nasıl cevap veririz? Çoğu zaman sadece EVET veya HAYIR deriz. Bazen eklentiyi tekrarlar ve tersine çeviririz (…do they?Yes, they do))

NB: Be very careful about answering tag questions. In some languages, an opposite system of answering is used, and non-native English speakers sometimes answer in the wrong way. This can lead to a lot of confusion!
(NOT: Eklenti sorularının cevaplandırılması konusunda çok dikkatli olun.Bazı dillerde, cevaplandırma konusunda tam tersi bir sistem kullanılmakta, ve ana dili İngilizce olmayanlar bazen ters şekilde cevap verebiliyorlar.Bu bir çok karışıklığa neden olabiliyor!)

In some languages, people answer a question like “It’s not raining, is it?” with “Yes” (meaning “Yes, I agree with you”). This is the wrong answer in English! In English we would reply to that question with “No” or “No, it isn’t” to agree that it isn’t raining.

Synonyms are different words which have the same meaning. We often use synonyms when we are speaking or writing so we don’t repeat words.

Eşanlamlılar aynı anlama gelen farklı kelimelerdir. Kelimeleri tekrarlamamak için, konuştuğumuz veya yazdığımız zaman sıkça eşanlamlılar kullanırız.

Examples: (Örnekler:)

choose —> pick (seçmek)

satisfied —> content (tatmin olmak)

lucky —> fortunate (şanslı olmak)

behave —> act (davranmak)

notice —> spot (dikkat etmek)

attitude —> approach (tutum)

make a decision —> make up your mind (karar vermek)

try to do —> have a go at doing (denemek)

nice —> pleasant (güzel)

enormous —> huge (devasa)

pleased —> glad (memnun olmak)

wonderful —> brilliant (harika)

terrible —> awful (korkunç)

NB: Many synonyms in English have small differences in meaning or use.
(NOT: İngilizcedeki bir çok eşanlamlının anlam veya kullanımda küçük farkları bulunmaktadır.)

Example (Örnek):
“Chat to someone” is more informal than “talk to someone”.
(“Birisiyle sohbet etmek”, “birisiyle konuşmak” tan daha az resmidir.)

INGILIZCE RELATIVE CLAUSES : DEFINING AND NON-DEFINING – İLGI TÜMCELERI: TANIMLAYICI VE TANIMLAMAYICI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Defining Relative Clauses (Tanımlayıcı İlgi Tümceleri)

We use Defining Relative Clauses to give important information about a person, place or thing.
Tanımlayıcı ilgi tümcelerini, bir kişi, yer veya şey hakkında önemli bilgi vermek için kullanırız.

Relative Clause = relative pronoun + subject + verb
(İlgi tümcesi = bağ zamiri + özne + fiil)

Relative Pronouns: (Bağ Zamirleri: )

We use “who” or “that” for people.
(“Who” veya “that” kişiler için kullanılır.)

Example (Örnek):
I saw the woman who lives next door.
(Karşıda oturan kadına rastladım.)

We use “that” or “which” for things
(“That” veya “which” nesneler için kullanılır.)

Example (Örnek):
This is the dress that I bought for $5.
(Bu $5’a aldığım elbise.)

We use “where” for places where an activity takes place.
(“Where” bir etkinliğin olduğu yerler için kullanırız.)

Example (Örnek):
Perth is the city where I grew up.
(Perth büyüdüğüm şehirdir.)

We use “whose” for possessives.
(“Whose” sahipliği belirtmek için kullanılır.)

Example (Örnek):
Jason is the boy whose parents own the newsagent.
(Jason haber ajansı sahiplerinin oğludur.)

NB: In defining relative clauses, you can omit “who, which and that” when the verbs in the main clause and the relative clause have a different subject.
(NOT: Tanımlayıcı ilgi tümcelerinde, “who, which ve that”, fiil esas vaziyette ise ve ilgi tümcesinin farklı bir öznesi bulunuyor ise, atlanabilirler.)

Example (Örnek):
He’s the man that I met yesterday. —> He’s the man I met yesterday.
(O dün rastladığım adam)

Here the subject of the main clause is ‘he’ and the subject of the relative clause is ‘I’ so it’s not necessary to use ‘that’.(Burada ana cümlenin öznesi “he” ve ilgi tümcesinin öznesi “I” , böylece “that” kullanımı gerekmiyor.)

Non-Defining Relative Clauses (Tanımlamayıcı İlgi Tümceleri)

We use Non-defining Relative Clauses to give extra information about a person, place or thing. Sentences with non-defining relative clauses have meaning with or without the clause.
(Tanımlamayıcı İlgi Tümcelerini, bir kişi, yer veya şey hakkında ilave bilgi vermek için kullanırız.Tanımlamayıcı İlgi Tümceleri ile kurulan cümlelerin, tümce ile beraber veya onsuz anlamları bulunmaktadır.)

Example (Örnek):
This building, which was designed by Gaudi, is a tourist attraction in Barcelona.
(Gaudi tarafından tasarlanmış olunan bina, Barcelona’da bir turist atraksiyonudur.)

Also makes sense without the clause: This building is a tourist attraction in Barcelona.
(Tümce olmadan da anlamlıdır: Bu bina Barcelona’da bir turist atraksiyonudur.)

Non-defining relative clauses must be put between commas, you can never leave out the relative pronoun, and you cannot use that in place of who or which.

(Tanımlamayıcı ilgi tümceleri virgüller arasında bulunmalı.Hiç bir zaman bağ zamirini atlayamazsınız, ve  “who” veya “which” yerine “that” kullanamazsınız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
Alice Springs, where my mother grew up, is in the middle of Australia.
(Annemin büyüdüğü Alice Springs, Avustralya’nın ortasındadır.)

My friend, who plays the trumpet, is in a concert next week.
(Trompeti çalan arkadaşım, gelecek hafta bir konsere katılacak.)

The sandals, which cost 99 TL, come in black, brown or red.

INGILIZCE CONDITIONALS WITH IMPERATIVES AND MODAL VERBS – EMIR KIPLI VE GEREKLILIK FIILLI ŞART KIPLERI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We can use modal verbs in the main clause of conditionals.
(Gereklilik fiillerini, şart kiplerinin ana cümlesinde kullanırız.)

Examples: (Örnekler:)

(Formda kalmak istiyorsan, bir jimnastik salonuna yazılman lazım)

(Odanı toparlamazsan, partiye gidemezsin)

(İşi geç bitirmem durumunda, eve taksi ile dönebilirim belki)

We can also use imperatives in the main clause of conditionals.
(Buyrum kiplerini aynı zamanda şart kiplerinin ana cümlelerindede kullanabiliriz.)

Examples: (Örnekler:)
If you see Donna, ask her to join us for dinner tonight.
(Donna’yı görürsen, ona bu akşam yemeğe gelip gelmemek istediğini sor)

If you are going to be late, give me a call.
(Geç kalman durumunda beni ara)

If you don’t understand the instructions, call the supplier.
(Talimatları anlamaman durumunda tedarikçiyi ara)

We can use “in case” to say we are prepared for something that might happen.

(“In case” bir şeyin olması durumuna karşı hazırlıklı olduğumuzu belirtmek için kullanırız.)

Example (Örnek):
I’ll take an umbrella in case it rains.
(Yağmur yağması durumunda yanıma bir şemsiye alacağım.)

NB: “In case” and “if” have different meanings.
(NOT: “In case” ve “If” in farklı anlamları bulunmaktadır.)

(Fazla güneşli olması durumunda biraz güneş kremi sürerim.)

In this sentence the person is definitely going to put on some sunscreen in preparation for a time in the future when it might be sunny.I’ll put on some sunscreen if it is sunny. In this sentence the person might put on some sunscreen, but only if it is sunny in the future.

The first conditional and second conditionals talk about the future. With the third conditional we talk about the past. We talk about a condition in the past that did not happen. There is no possibility for this condition.

Birinci ve ikinci şart kiplerinde gelecek hakkındaki olaylar konu edilir.Üçüncü şart kipinde gelecek hakkında konuşuruz.Geçmişte meydana gelmemiş bir durum hakkında konuşuruz.Bu koşulda bir ihtimal söz konusu değildir.

Example (Örnek):
Last week you bought a lottery ticket. But you did not win.
(Geçen hafta bir piyango bileti aldın.Ama bir şey kazanamadın.)

—> If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a house.
(—> Piyangoda kazanmış olsaydım, kendime bir ev alırdım.)

FORM: If + subject + Past Perfect, subject + would have + past participle.
(ŞEKİL: If + özne + Mişli Geçmiş Zaman, özne + would have + geçmiş zaman ortacı)

Notice that we are thinking about an impossible past condition. You did not win the lottery. So the condition was not true, and that particular condition can never be true because it is finished.

(İmkansız olan bir geçmiş koşul hakkında düşündüğümüze dikkat edin.Piyangoda kazanamadınız.Böylece koşul doğru değildi, ve söz konusu koşul hiçbir zaman gerçekleşemez, çünkü sona ermiş durumda.)

We use the past perfect tense to talk about the impossible past condition.
(İmkansız geçmiş koşul hakkında konuşmak için mişli geçmiş zaman kullanırız.)

We use “WOULD HAVE + past participle” to talk about the impossible past result.
(İmkansız geçmiş sonuç hakkında konuşmak için “WOULD HAVE + geçmiş zaman” ortacı kullanırız.)

The important thing about the third conditional is that both the condition and result are impossible now.
(Üçüncü koşullu hakkında önemli olan husus, koşul ve sonucun artık imkansız olmasıdır.)

Sometimes, we use “SHOULD HAVE”, “COULD HAVE”, “MIGHT HAVE” instead of “WOULD HAVE”.
(Bazen,”WOULD HAVE” yerine “SHOULD HAVE”, “COULD HAVE”, “MIGHT HAVE” kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):

(Daha genç olmayı dilerdim)

INGILIZCE REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS – DÖNÜŞLÜLÜK ZAMIRLERI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

FORM (ŞEKİL):

Object Pronoun – Reflexive Pronoun
Nesne zamiri – Dönüşlülük Zamiri

me – myself (beni – kendim)

you – yourself (sen – kendin)

him/her/it – himself / herself / itself (ona – kendisine)

us – ourselves ( bize – kendimize)

you – yourselves (plural) (siz – kendileriniz (çoğul) )

them – themselves (onlara – kendilerine)

We use reflexive pronouns when the subject and object are the same.
(Dönüşlülük zamirlerini özne ve nesne aynı oldukları durumlarda kullanabiliriz.)

Example (Örnek):
I burnt myself on the stove this morning.
(Bu sabah kendimi sobada yaktım)

You can help yourselves to pizza.
(Kendinize pizza servisi yapabilirsiniz)

He blames himself for the break up.
(Kendisini ayrılık konusunda suçluyor)

She should learn to look after herself.
(Kendi kendisine bakmasını öğrenmeli)

We use reflexive pronouns to emphasize the subject, meaning “that person or thing and nobody/nothing else”.
(Dönüşlülük zamirlerini nesneyi vurgulamak için kullanırız, yani “o kişi veya şey ve başka kimse/hiçbirşey” anlamında.

Examples (Örnekler) :
“Did someone paint your house?”
(Birisi evini mi boyadı?”)

“No, I painted it myself.
(“Hayır, ben kendim boyadım”.)

“He was planning to ask his wife to go, but in the end he went himself.
(“O gitmesi konusunda karısına sormayı planlıyordu, ama sonuçta kendisi gitti.))

We do NOT use reflexive pronouns after “feel”, “meet”, “concentrate” and “relax”, and we do NOT normally use them after “wash”, “shave” and “dress”, unless it is necessary to make it clear who does the action.

(“Feel”, “meet”, “concentrate” ve “relax” den sonra dönüşlülük zamirleri kullanılmaz, ve normalde onları “wash”, “shave” ve “dress” den sonra, kimin eylemi gerçekleştirdiğinin belirtilmesi gerekmedikçe, kullanmayız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
He finds it difficult to relax.
(O dinlenmeyi zor buluyor.)

NOT He finds it difficult to relax himself.
(O kendisini dinlendirmeyi zor buluyor şeklinde DEĞİL)

George and I will meet on Sunday.
(George ve ben Pazar günü buluşacağız.)

NOT George and I will meet ourselves on Sunday.
(Georg ve ben kendimizi Pazar günü buluşturacağız şeklinde DEĞİL)

We can use “BY + reflexive pronoun” to mean alone.
(“BY + dönüşlülük zamirini” tek başına anlamında kullanabiliriz.)

Examples(Örnekler):
She likes to go on holiday by herself.
(O tatile tek başına gitmeyi seviyor.)

I enjoy working by myself.
(Kendi başıma çalışmaktan zevk alıyorum.)

NB: We can say “on my own”, “on your own, etc” instead of “by myself”, “by yourself, etc”.
(NOT: “By myself”, “by yourselfvs.” yerine “on my own”, “on your own, vs.” diyebiliriz.)

Example (Örnek):
I like going to the movies by myself/on my own.
(Sinemada film seyretmeye kendi başıma/tek gitmeyi seviyorum. )

INGILIZCE REPORTING VERBS – BILDIREN FIILLER – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use a variety of verbs to report what people say.The grammar structure we use after them changes.
Kişilerin söylediğini bildirmek için bir dizi fiil kullanırız.Onların takibindeki gramer yapısı değişiklik gösterir.

“invite”/ “remind”/ “warn” + object + infinitive with to
(“invite”/ “remind”/ “warn” + obje + to ile mastar)

Example (Örnek):
He invited me to go to a party.
(O beni bir partiye gitmeye davet etti.)

I reminded her to bring her ID.
(Ona kimlik kartını getirmesini hatırlattım.)

She warned him not to drive too fast.
(O onu çok hızlı sürmemesi konusunda uyardı.)

“offer”/ “refuse”/ “promise”/ “agree”/ “threaten” + infinitive with to
(“offer”/ “refuse”/ “promise”/ “agree”/ “threaten” + to ile mastar)

Example (Örnek):
Tim offered to give me a lift home.
(Tim beni eve götürmeyi teklif etti.)

She refused to accept any help.
(O herhangi bir yardım almayı reddetti.)

He promised to keep the secret.
(O sırrı tutacağı konusunda söz verdi.)

I agreed to do extra shifts at work this week.
(Bu hafta işte ilave vardiyalar çalışmayı kabul ettim.)

He threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
(Birisine söylerse onu öldürmekle tehdit etti.)

“admit”/ “suggest” + verb + ing
(“admit”/ “suggest” + fiil + ing)

Example (Örnek):
Jo admitted breaking the vase.
(Jo vazoyu kırdığını itiraf etti.)

Emily suggested buying a new one.
(Emily yeni bir tane alınmasını önerdi.)

NB
: We don’t have to report all the words people say. It’s more important to report the main idea.
(NOT: Kişilerin söylediği her kelimeyi bildirmemiz gerekmiyor.Ana fikri bildirmek daha önemlidir.)

Example (Örnek):
“Don’t forget to lock the door.” —> She reminded them to lock the door.
(“Kapıyı kilitlemeyi unutma.” —> Onlara kapıyı kilitlemelerini hatırlattı.)

Some reporting verbs have more than one verb pattern. After “promise”, “agree”, “admit” and “suggest” we can use “THAT + clause”.

(Bazı bildiren fiillerin birden fazla kalıpları vardır. “Promise”, “agree”, “admit” ve “suggest” ten sonra “THAT + cümle” kullanabiliriz.)

Example (Örnek):
James admitted being in love with her. / James admitted that he was in love with her.
(James ona aşık oldugunu itiraf etti. / James ona aşık olduğunu itiraf etti.)

INGILIZCE FUTURE : WILL / BE GOING TO / PRESENT CONTINUOUS – GELECEK: ARZU ETMEK / GITMEK / ŞIMDIKI ZAMAN – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Talking about the future in English can be confusing!
We use “will”, “shall”, “be going to” and “the Present Continuous” for different reasons when we talk about the future.

Will / Shall + infinitive

We use “will”, “shall” for:

-instant decisions at the time of speaking.

Example:
I’ll have the steak.

– promises

Example:
I won’t tell anybody your secret

– offers

Example:
I’ll pick you up at seven.

– predictions (without present evidence)

Example:
You’ll never come back to live here.

 suggestions

Example:
Shall we see a movie tonight?

NB: Use shall (NOT will) with “I” and “we” for offers and suggestions when they are questions.

We also use “will” for future facts.

Example:
I’ll be forty this year!

Be going to + infinitive

We use going to for:
planned actions that we have already decided to do before the time of speaking.

Examples:
We’re going to get married next year.

I’m going to play football on Saturday.

– predictions based on present evidence.

Examples:
Look at those black clouds! It’s going to rain.

We’ve missed the train! We’re going to be late.

NB: With the word go you can leave out the infinitive.

Example:
I’m going to go to Switzerland. —> I’m going to Switzerland.

Present Continuous

We can use “going to” or “Present Continuous” for future plans.

– “going to” shows you have made a decision.

Example:
We’re going to get married in the spring.

– “Present Continuous” emphasizes that you have made the arrangements.

Example:
We’re getting married on May 5th.

NB:
We usually use Present Continuous when we have made an arrangement with another person. They are the kind of arrangements you would write in a diary.

Examples:
I’m seeing the doctor at 2pm tomorrow. ( I have an appointment)

I’m meeting Anna for breakfast on Saturday. ( I ‘ve made an arrangement with Anna)

NB: We can always use “going to” instead of “Present Continuous”.

INGILIZCE REPORTED SPEECH – DOLAYLI ANLATIM – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use reported speech to tell someone what another person said.
Dolaylı anlatımı bir kişiye başka bir kişinin söylediğini anlatmak için kullanırız.

Examples (Örnekler):

Jim says to you… (Jim sana diyor…):

I don’t feel well.
(Kendimi iyi hissetmiyorum.)

I can’t drive.
(Araba kullanmasını bilmiyorum.)

My parents have gone on holiday.
(Ebeveynlerim tatile gittiler.)

I’m going out now so you will have to wait until I get back.
(Ben şimdi dışarı çıkıyorım, bundan dolayı ben geri donene kadar beklemen gerekecek.)

You tell your friend what Jim said… (Siz arkadaşınıza Jim’in söylediklerini anlatıyorsunuz…):

Jim said (that) he didn’t feel well.
(Jim kendisinin iyi hissetmediğini söyledi.)

He said (that) he couldn’t drive.
(Kendisinin araba kullanmasını bilmediğini söyledi.)

He said (that) his parents had gone on holiday.
(Ebevenlerinin tatile gittiklerini söyledi.)

He said (that) he was going out now so I would have to wait until he got back.
(O şimdi dışarı çıkacağını ve bundan dolayı o gelene kadar beklemem gerektiğini söyledi.)

In reported speech, we usually report what was said at a different time, and so we change the tense to reflect the time which we are reporting.

(Dolaylı anlatımda, genelde başka bir zamanda söylenen şeyleri anlatırız, böylece anlattığımız olayın geçtiği zamanı yansıtan fiil zaman kipini değiştiririz.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “I’m not playing football.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Ben futbol oynamıyorum.”)

REPORTED LATER: He said that he wasn’t playing football.
(SONRADAN ANLATIM: O futbol oynamış olmadığını söyledi.)

Look at the change in tense from direct speech to reported speech in these examples:
(Aşağıda verilen örneklerde dolaysız anlatımdan dolaylı anlatıma geçişteki fiil zaman kipindeki değişikliğe bakın:)

Present Simple —> Past Simple
(Geniş Zaman —> Di’li Geçmiş Zaman)

Example (Örnek):
“I want to work abroad.” —> He said he wanted to work abroad.
(“Ben yurt dışında çalışmak istiyorum.” —> O yurt dışında çalışmak istediğini söyledi.)

Present Continuous —> Past Continuous
(Şimdiki Zaman —> Şimdiki Zamanın Hikayesi)

Example (Örnek):
“I’m teaching English in Istanbul.” —> She said she was teaching English in Istanbul.
(“İstanbul’da ingilizce öğretiyorum.” —> O İstanbul’da ingilizce öğrettiğini söyledi.)

Past Simple —> Past Perfect
(Di’li Geçmiş Zaman —> Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)

Example (Örnek):
“I met a girl.” —> He said that he had met a girl.
(“Ben bir kız ile tanıştım.” —> O bir kız ile tanışmış olduğunu söyledi.)
Present Perfect —> Past Perfect
(Yakın Geçmiş Zaman —> Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)

Example (Örnek):
“I’ve been to Australia.” —> She said she had been to Australia.
(“Ben Avustralya’ya gittim.” —> O Avustralya’ya gitmiş olduğunu söyledi.)
Will —> Would
(Olacak —> Olacaktı)

Example (Örnek):
“I’ll be back in May.” —> She said she would be back in May.
(“Ben Mayısta geri döneceğim.” —> O Mayısta geri dönmüş olabileceğini söyledi.)
Can —> Could
(Etmek —> Edebilmek)

“I can help you.” —> He said that he could help me.
(“Ben sana yardım edebilirim.” —> O bana yardım edebileceğini söyledi.)

Be going to —> Was/Were going to

(Gitmek üzereyim —> O/Onlar gidiyordu)

Example (Örnek):
“I’m going to start a business.” —> He told me he was going to start a business.
(“Ben bir iş kuracağım.” —> O bana bir iş kuracağını söyledi.)
Must —> Had to

(Zorunda Olmak —> Gerekiyordu)

Example (Örnek):
“You must finish this report by tomorrow.” —> She told me I had to finish the report by the next day.
(“Yarına kadar bu raporu bitirmiş olman gerekiyor.” —> O bana raporu ertesi güne kadar bitirmek zorunda olduğumu söylemişti.)

We use “said” or “told” in reported speech but they are used differently.
(Dolaylı anlatımda “said” yada “told” kullanırız.Ancak onlar farklı kullanılır.)

-You can’t use “said” with an object or pronoun.
(-“Said” bir tümleç veya bir adıl ile kullanamazsınız.)Example (Örnek):
He said that he loved her. NOT He said her that he loved her.
(O, onu sevdiğini söyledi.Ama “o ona onu sevdiğini söyledi” şekli KULLANILMAZ.)

-You must use “told” with an object.
(- “Told” kelimesini bir tümleç ile beraber kullanmalısınız.)

Example (Örnek):
He told her that he loved her. NOT He told that he loved her.
(O, onu sevdiğini söyledi ona.Ama “onu sevdiğini söyledi” şekli KULLANILMAZ.)

NB: “that” is optional after “say” and “tell”
(NOT: “That”, “say” ve “tell” den sonra opsiyoneldir.)

Sometimes we need to change the pronoun.
(Bazı durumlarda adıl’ı değiştirmemiz gerekiyor.)

DIRECT SPEECH: Jim: “I don’t like living here.” (Jim is referring to himself)
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: Jim: “Burada yaşamayı sevmiyorum.” (Jim kendisinden bahsediyor.))

REPORTED SPEECH: Jim said (that) he didn’t like living here. (the pronoun “he” refers to Jim)
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: Jim burada yaşamayı sevmediğini söyledi. ( “He” adılı Jim’e atıfta bulunuyor. ))

We may also need to change other words about place and time.
(Aynı zamanda yer ve zaman hakkındaki başka kelimeleride değiştirmemiz gerekebilir.)

(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Ben geçen hafta Tokyo’ya gittim.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: She said (that) she’d been to Tokyo the week before.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O geçen hafta Tokyo’da bulunduğunu söyledi.)

If we report something which is still true, it is not necessary to change the verb.
(Halen geçerli olan bir şeyi aktarıyorsak, o zaman fiili değiştirmeye gerek yoktur.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “My car is bigger than yours.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Benim arabam seninkinden daha büyük.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He said his car is / was bigger than mine.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O bana onun arabasının şu anda / bir zamanlar benimkinden daha büyük olduğunu söyledi.)

When we are reporting past tenses, and we see the events from the same viewpoint as the original speaker, it is not necessary to change the tense.
(Geçmiş zamandan bahsediyorsak eğer, ve olayları orijinal anlatıcının bakış açısından görüyorsak, bu durumda fiil zaman kipini değiştirmeye gerek yoktur.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “The earthquake happened at half past seven.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Deprem yedi buçukta meydana geldi.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: The radio said that the earthquake happened at half past seven.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: Radyoda depremin yedi buçukta meydana geldiği söylendi.)

Modal verbs “could”, “might”, “would”, “should”, “ought”, “had better” usually do not change in reported speech.
(“Could”, “might”, “would”, “should”, “ought”, “had better” yardımcı fiilleri, dolaylı anlatımda genellikle değişmiyorlar.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “I should go to the dentist.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Diş hekimine gitmem gerekiyor.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He said that he should go to the dentist.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O diş hekimine gitmesi gerektiğini söyledi.)

When we are reporting questions, the subject comes before the verb. We DON’T use “do/did”.
(Dolaylı anlatımda sorular sorduğumuzda, özne fiilden önce gelir.“Do/did” KULLANMAYIZ.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “Where are you going?”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Nereye gidiyorsun?”)

(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIMA: O bana onun ne istediğini sordu.”O bana ne istedi o diye sordu” şeklinde KULLANILMAZ)

If the question begins with “do”, “can etc”. add “IF”.
(Soru “do”, “can, vb” ile başlıyorsa, “if” eklenir.)

INGILIZCE PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS – DEVAM EDEN YAKIN GEÇMIŞ ZAMAN – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

(ŞEKİL: “has/have” + “been” + fiil + ing)

USE 1: Duration from the past until now
(KULLANIM 1: Geçmişten şimdiye kadar geçen süre)

We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show that something started in the past and has continued up until now.
“For ten minutes,” “for three months,” and “since Saturday” are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect Continuous.
(Devam eden Yakın Geçmiş Zamanı, bir şeyin geçmişte başlayıp şimdiye kadar devam ettiğini göstermek için kullanırız.”For ten minutes”, “for three months”, ve “since Saturday” hepsi Devam eden Yakın Geçmiş Zaman ile beraber kullanılabilir sürelerdir.)

USE 2: “Recently”, “Lately”
(KULLANIM 2: “Geçenlerde”, “Son Zamanlarda”)

You can also use the Present Perfect Continuous WITHOUT a duration time. Without the duration, the tense has a more general meaning of “lately.” We often use the words “lately” or “recently” to emphasize this meaning.
(Devam eden Yakın Geçmiş Zamanı aynı zamanda bir süre zamanı OLMADAN da kullanabilirsiniz.Süre olmadan zamanın daha genel olarak “son zamanlarda” anlamı oluşur.Sıkça olarak “lately” veya “recently” kelimelerini bu anlamı vurgulamak için kullanırız.)

INGILIZCE INDIRECT QUESTIONS – DOLAYLI SORULAR – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

In more formal situations we often use indirect questions because they sound more polite.
(Daha resmi durumlarda, daha kibar bir ifade tarzı olduğu için, sıkça dolaylı sorular kullanırız.)

To make a question more polite we often begin with an indirect question phrase such as:
(Bir soruyu daha kibar bir hale getirmek için, sıkça aşağıda gösterildiği gibi dolaylı bir soru cümle dizilimi ile başlarız:)

Could you tell me…?
(Bana söyleyebilirmisin…?)

Do you know…?
(Biliyormusun…?)

Have you any idea…?
(Herhangi bir fikrin var mı…?)

Can you tell me…?
(Bana söyleyebilirmisin…?)

To make a direct question indirect we use the form:
(Doğrudan bir soruyu dolaysız hale çevirmek için, şu şekli kullanırız:

“Indirect question phrase” + “question word/if/ whether” + “main clause”.
(“Dolaysız soru cümle dizilimi” + “soru kelimesi/ if / whether” + “ana tümce”. )

The word order in the main clause changes to “subject + verb”.
(Ana tümcedeki kelime sıralaması “özne + fiil” olarak değişir.)

(Yakınlarda bir banka bulunuyor mu acaba? —> Yakınlarda bir bankanın bulunup bulunmadığı konusunda herhangi bir fikriniz var mı acaba?)

NB: If the direct question begins with an auxiliary verb (no question word), add “if” or “whether” after an indirect question phrase to make the question indirect. In indirect questions, “if” and “whether” are the same.We don’t use “if” or “whether” with “Do you think…?”
(NOT: Doğrudan soru bir yardımcı fiil ile başlıyorsa eğer (soru kelimesi değil), soruyu dolaylı hale getirmek için, dolaysız soru cümle diziliminden sonra “if” yada “whether” ekleyin. Dolaysız sorularda, “if” ve “whether” aynı anlama gelirler.“Do you think…?” ile beraber “if” veya “whether” kullanmayız.)
