INGILIZCE PREFIXES – ÖNEKLER – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We often use prefixes to make opposites of adjectives.Prefixes are small word parts that are added at the beginning of a word.
(Önekleri sıkca sıfatların karşıtlarını oluşturmak için kullanırız.Önekler bir kelimenin başına eklenen küçük kelime parçacıklarıdır. )

Examples (Örnekler):
unhappy (mutsuz)

incorrect (yanlış)

impatient (sabırsız)

dishonest (dürüst olmamak)

Some examples of prefixes and opposites of adjectives
(Önekler ve sıfatların karşıtlarına dair bazı örnekler):

un- : unemployed, unhelpful, unreliable, unselfish, unintelligent, unambitious, unfriendly, unattractive, unsure, unhealthy, unhappy
(işsiz, yardımcı olmayan, güvenilmez, bencil olmayan, zeki olmayan, hırslı olmayan, dostça olmayan, çekici olmayan, emin olmayan, sağlıksız, mutsuz)

(Öneklerin (prefixes) kullanımı konusunda belirlenmiş kurallar mevcut değildir!Ancak aşağıda konu ile ilgili yararlı olabilecek bazı püf noktaları bulunmaktadır:)

Adjectives beginning with “c” usually take the prefix in-
(“c” ile başlayan sıfatlar genellikle in- öneğini alırlar

Example (Örnek):
incorrect

Adjectives beginning with “p” usually take the prefix im-
(“p” ile başlayan sıfatlar genellikle im- öneğini alırlar.)
Example (Örnek):
impatient

We can’t use prefixes with all adjectives
(Önekleri tüm sıfatlar ile beraber kullanamayız)
NOT “immoody” and NOT “unshy”
(immoody” KULLANILMAZ ve “unshy” KULLANILMAZ))

We can use “un-” to make opposites of some verbs
(“un” bazı fiilleri ters anlama getirmek için kullanırız)
Examples (Örnekler):
unpack (ambalajı açmak)

undo (sökmek)

undress (soyunmak)

unlock (kilidi açmak)

(İngilizcede “So” + yardımcı fiil + “I / Neither” + yardımcı fiil + “I” yapısını, bir kişiyle bir şeyinizin ortak olduğunu anlatmak istediğiniz zaman kullanırız.)

We use the “second conditional” to talk about situations or actions in the present or future, which are not likely to happen or are imaginary, hypothetical or impossible.
(İngilizce’de (“second conditional”) İkinci koşulluyu şimdiki zaman veya gelecekteki, olma ihtimali zayıf, hayali, varsayımsal veya imkansız durum veya eylemler hakkında konuşurken kullanırız.)

FORM (Şekil) :
If + subject + past simple, subject + would + infinitive
If + özne + di’li geçmiş zaman, özne + would + mastar)

NB: The contraction of “would” is “‘d” and the contraction of would not is “wouldn’t”.
(NOT: İngilizce’de ” would ” ın kısaltması ” ‘d ” ve ” would not ” un kısaltması ” wouldn’t” dır.)

Second conditional Examples (Örnek):
If I had enough money, I’d buy that jacket. (I haven’t got enough money)
(Yeterli param olsa, o ceketi alırdım.) (Yeterince param yok)

If I had some free time, I’d go with you. (I don’t have any free time)
(Boş vaktim olsaydı, seninle gelirdim.) (Boş vaktim yok)

The “if” phrase can come first or second.
(“If” sözcük öbeği ilk yada ikinci sırada gelebilir.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I won the lottery, I’d travel around the world.
(Piyangoda kazansam, dünya seyahatine çıkardım.)

I’d travel around the world if I won the lottery.
(Dünya seyahatine çıkardım, piyangoda kazansam.)

NB: With the verb be you can use were instead of was after I/he/she/it.
(NOT: “Be” fiili ile “I/he/she/it” den sonra “was” yerine “were” kullanabilirsiniz.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I were younger, I’d come with you.
(Daha genç olsaydım, senin ile gelmek isterdim.)

If she were rich, she’d move to the Caribbean.
(Zengin olsa, Karayiplere taşınmak isterdi.)

We often make questions in the second conditional with “What would you do …?”.
This phrase can come at the beginning or the end of the question.
(Second conditional larda sıklıkla “What would you do…?” şeklinde sorular sorarız.
Bu sözcük öbeği sorunun başında yada sonunda yer alabilir.)

Examples (Örnekler):
What would you do if someone gave you a million dollars?
(Biri size bir milyon dolar verse ne yapardınız?)

If someone asked you to jump off a cliff, what would you do?
(Eğer biri size bir uçurumdan atla dese, ne yapardınız?)

We can use other modal verbs in place of ‘would’.
(“Would” yerine başka yardımcı fiilleri de kullanabiliriz.)

Examples (Örnekler):
If I had more money, I could buy a car.
(Daha fazla param olsa, bir araba alabilirdim.)

If I won the lottery, I might give all the money to charity.
(Piyangoyu kazansam, belkide kazandığım tüm parayı hayır işleri için kullanabilirdim.)

Let’s compare the First Conditional with the Second Conditional.
(Birinci Koşulluyu İkinci Koşullu ile karşılaştıralım.)

First conditional: If she studies hard, she’ll pass the exam.
(First Conditional: O eğer sıkı çalışırsa, sınavı geçecektir.)

– She’s a good student and I think she might pass the exam = possible situation
(- O iyi bir öğrenci ve onun sınavı geçebileceğini düşünüyorum = olası bir durum)

Second conditional: If she studied hard, she’d pass the exam.
(Second conditional: O eğer sıkı çalışırsa, sınavı geçebilir.)

– She’s not a good student and she never studies, so I don’t think she will pass the exam = imaginary situation
(- O iyi bir öğrenci değil ve hiç çalışmaz, bundan dolayı onun sınavı geçeceğini sanmıyorum = hayali bir durum)

INGILIZCE VERBS + INFINITIVE / GERUNDS – FIILLER + MASTAR / ULAÇLAR – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Gerunds and infinitives are forms of verbs that act like nouns. They can follow adjectives and other verbs. Gerunds can also follow prepositions.
(Ulaçlar ve Mastarlar isimler yerine geçen fiil şekilleridir. Sıfat ve başka fiillerden sonra gelebilirler.Ulaçlar ayrıca edatları da takip edebilirler.)

A gerund (often known as an -ing word) is a noun formed from a verb by adding “-ing”. Not all words formed with “-ing” are gerunds.
(Bir ulaç (sıkca -ing kelimesi olarak tanınır) “–ing” eklenerek bir fiil tarafından şekillendirilmiş olan bir isimdir. Her “–ing” ile şekillendirilmiş olan bir kelimeler, ulaçlar değildir.)

An infinitive is “to + the verb”.
(Bir mastar “ to + fiil” den meydana gelir.)

When a verb follows a verb it either takes the gerund or infinitive form.
(Bir fiil bir fiili takip ettiği zaman ya ulaç yada mastar şeklini alır.)

Examples (Örnekler):
With the verb “start”;

“It started to rain.” or “It started raining.” Both sentences have the same meaning.
(“Start” fiili ile: ”It started to rain” yada “It started raining” İki cümleninde anlamı aynıdır.)

Sometimes the use of the gerund or infinitive changes the meaning of the sentence.
(Bazen ulaç yada mastarın kullanımı cümlenin anlamını değiştirir.)

Examples (Örnekler):
With the verb “remember”;

“I remembered to do my homework”. or “I remembered doing my homework.”

In the first sentence (I remembered to do my homework), the person speaking remembered they had some homework first and then carried out the action and did it. In the second sentence (I remembered doing my homework.), the person speaking carried out the action (their homework) first and then remembered doing it.

(“Remember” fiili ile: “I remembered to do my homework” yada “I remembered doing my homework”

İlk cümlede (I remembered to do my homework), konuşan kişi önce bir ev ödevlerinin olduğunu hatırladı ve sonrada eylemi uyguladı ve onu yaptı.İkinci cümlede (I remembered doing my homework), konuşan kişi önce eylemi (ev ödevlerini) uyguladı ve sonra onu yaptığını hatırladı.)

Other verbs only take one or the other, unfortunately there is no rule as to which form the verb takes. The same is true when the verb follows an adjective.
(Başka fiiller sadece birini yada ötekini alırlar, ne yazık ki fiilin alacağı şekil konusunda bir kural yoktur.Aynı şey bir fiil bir sıfatı takip ettiği zamanda geçerlidir.)

The best way to learn their correct use is with practice!
(Doğru kullanımlarını öğrenmenin en kolay yolu pratik yapmaktan geçer!)

Gerunds after Prepositions(Ulaçlar Edatlardan sonra)
When a verb is used after a preposition the verb takes the “-ing” form.
(Bir fiil bir edatdan sonra kullanılırsa eğer, fiil “–ing” şeklini alır.)

Examples (Örnekler):
You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs.
(Yumurtaları kırmadan bir omlet yapamazsın)

INGILIZCE REPORTED SPEECH – DOLAYLI ANLATIM – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

We use reported speech to tell someone what another person said.
(Dolaylı anlatımı başka bir kişiye başka bir kişinin söylediğini anlatmak için kullanırız.)

Examples (Örnekler):
Jim says to you…
(Jim sana diyor…)

“I don’t feel well.”
(“Kendimi iyi hissetmiyorum.”)

“I can’t drive.”
(“Araba kullanmasını bilmiyorum.”)

“My parents have gone on holiday.”
(“Ebeveynlerim tatile gittiler.” )

“I’m going out now so you will have to wait until I get back.”
(“Ben şimdi dışarı çıkıyorım, bundan dolayı gelmeme kadar beklemen gerekecek.”)

You tell your friend what Jim said…
(Siz arkadaşınıza Jim’in söylediklerini anlatıyorsunuz…)

Jim said (that) he didn’t feel well.
(Jim kendisinin iyi hissetmediğini söyledi.)

He said (that) he couldn’t drive.
(Kendisinin araba kullanmasını bilmediğini söyledi.)

He said (that) his parents had gone on holiday.
(Ebevenlerinin tatile gittiklerini söyledi.)

He said (that) he was going out now so I would have to wait until he got back.
(O şimdi dışarı çıkacağını ve bundan dolayı onun gelmesine kadar beklemem gerektiğini söyledi.)

In reported speech, we usually report what was said at a different time, and so we change the tense to reflect the time which we are reporting.
(Dolaylı anlatımda, genelde başka bir zamanda söylenen şeyleri anlatırız, böylece anlattığımız olayın geçtiği zamanı yansıtan fiil zaman kipini değiştiririz.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “I’m not playing football.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Ben futbol oynamıyorum.”)

REPORTED LATER: He said that he wasn’t playing football.
(SONRADAN ANLATIM: O futbol oynamış olmadığını söyledi.)

Look at the change in tense from direct speech to reported speech in these examples:
(Aşağıda verilen örneklerde dolaysız anlatımdan dolaylı anlatıma geçişteki fiil zaman kipindeki değişikliğe bakın.)

Present Simple —> Past Simple (Geniş Zaman —> Di’li Geçmiş Zaman)
“I want to work abroad.” —> He said he wanted to work abroad.
(“Ben yurt dışında çalışmak istiyorum.” —> O yurt dışında çalışmak istediğini söyledi.)

Present Continuous —> Past Continuous(Şimdiki Zaman —> Sürekli Geçmiş Zaman)
“I’m teaching English in Istanbul.” —> She said she was teaching English in Istanbul.
(“Ben İstanbul’da İngilizce öğretiyorum” —> O İstanbul’da İngilizce öğrettiğini söyledi.)

Past Simple —> Past Perfect(Di’li Geçmiş Zaman —> Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)
“I met a girl.” —> He said that he had met a girl.
(“Ben bir kız ile tanıştım.” —> O bir kız ile tanışmış olduğunu söyledi.)

Present Perfect —> Past Perfect (Yakın Geçmiş Zaman —> Miş’li Geçmiş Zaman)
“I’ve been to Australia.” —> She said she had been to Australia.
(“Ben Avustralya’ya gittim.” —> O Avustralya’ya gitmiş olduğunu söyledi.)

Will —> Would (Olmak —> Olabilir)
“I’ll be back in May.” —> She said she would be back in May.
(“Ben Mayısta geri döneceğim.” —> O Mayısta geri dönmüş olabileceğini söyledi.)

Can —> Could (Etmek —> Edebilmek)
“I can help you.” —> He said that he could help me.
(“Ben sana yardım edebilirim.” —> O bana yardım edebileceğini söyledi.)

Be going to —> Was/Were going to (Gitmek üzereyim —> O/Onlar gidiyordu)
“I’m going to start a business.” —> He told me he was going to start a business.
(“Ben bir iş kuracağım.” —> O bana bir iş kuracağını söyledi.)

We use “said” or “told” in reported speech but they are used differently.
(Dolaylı anlatımda “said” yada “told” kullanırız.Ancak onlar farklı kullanılır.)

-You can’t use “said” with an object or pronoun.
(-“Said” bir tümleç veya bir adıl ile kullanamazsınız.)

Example (Örnek):
He said that he loved her. –> NOT He said her that he loved her.
(O, onu sevdiğini söyledi.Ama “o ona onu sevdiğini söyledi” şekli KULLANILMAZ.)

– You must use “told” with an object.
(- “told” kelimesini bir tümleç ile beraber kullanmalısınız.)

Example (Örnek):
He told her that he loved her. NOT He told that he loved her.
(O onu sevdiğini söyledi ona. Ama “onu sevdiğini söyledi” şekli KULLANILMAZ.)

NB: “that” is optional after “say” and “tell”
(NOT: “That” “say” ve “tell”’den sonra opsiyoneldir.)

Sometimes we need to change the pronoun.
(Bazı durumlarda adıl’ı değiştirmemiz gerekiyor.)

DIRECT SPEECH: Jim: “I don’t like living here.” (Jim is referring to himself)
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: Jim: “Ben burada yaşamayı sevmiyorum.” (Jim kendisine atıfta bulunuyor))

REPORTED SPEECH: Jim said (that) he didn’t like living here. (the pronoun he refers toJim)
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: Jim burada yaşamayı sevmediğini söyledi. ( “He” adılı Jim’e atıfta bulunuyor.))

We may also need to change other words about place and time.
(Aynı zamanda yer ve zaman hakkındaki başka kelimeleride değiştirmemiz gerekebilir.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “I like this car.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Bu arabayı beğeniyorum.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He said (that) he liked the car.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O bu arabayı beğendiğini söyledi.)

(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Ben geçen hafta Tokyo’ya gittim.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: She said (that) she’d been to Tokyo the week before.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O geçen hafta Tokyo’da bulunduğunu söyledi.)

If we report something which is still true, it is not necessary to change the verb.
(Halen geçerli olan bir şeyi aktarıyorsak, o zaman fiili değiştirmeye gerek yoktur.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “My car is bigger than yours.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Benim arabam seninkinden daha büyük.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He said his car is / was bigger than mine.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O bana onun arabasının şu anda / bir zamanlar benimkinden daha büyük olduğunu söyledi.)

When we are reporting past tenses, and we see the events from the same viewpoint as the original speaker, it is not necessary to change the tense.
(Geçmiş zamandan bahsediyorsak eğer, ve olayları orijinal anlatıcının bakış açısından görüyorsak, bu durumda fiil zaman kipini değiştirmeye gerek yoktur.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “The earthquake happened at half past seven.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Deprem yedibuçukta meydana geldi.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: The radio said that the earthquake happened at half past seven.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: Radyoda depremin yedibuçukta meydana geldiği söylendi.)

Modal verbs “could”, “might”, “would”, “should”, “ought”, “had better” usually do not change in reported speech.
(“Could”, “might”, “would”, “should”, “ought”, “had better” yardımcı fiilleri, dolaylı anlatımda genellikle değişmiyorlar.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “I should go to the dentist.”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Ben diş hekimine gitmem gerekiyor.”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He said that he should go to the dentist.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O diş hekimine gitmesi gerektiğini söyledi.)

When we are reporting questions, the subject comes before the verb. We don’t use “do/did”.
(Dolaylı anlatımda sorular sorduğumuzda, özne fiilden önce gelir.“Do/did” kullanmayız.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “Where are you going?”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Nereye gidiyorsun?”)

REPORTED SPEECH: He asked me where I was going.
(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O bana nereye gittiğimi sordu.)

(DOLAYLI ANLATIM: O bana onun neden bağırdığını sordu.)

DIRECT SPEECH: “What do you want?”
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: “Sen ne istiyorsun?”)

REPORTED SPEECH: She asked me what he wanted. NOT She asked me what did he want.
(DOLAYSIZ ANLATIM: O bana onun ne istediğini sordu.”O bana ne istedi o diye sordu” şeklinde KULLANILMAZ)

If the question begins with “do”,”can”, etc. add “if”.

Examples (Örnekler):
“Do you like the music?” —> He asked her if she liked the music.

“Can you swim?” —> She asked him if he could swim.

“Are you a student?” —> He asked her if she was a student.

INGILIZCE PRESENT SIMPLE / PAST SIMPLE PASSIVE – GENIŞ ZAMAN / PASIF DI’LI GEÇMIŞ ZAMAN – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

There are two special forms for verbs called “voice”:
“Voice” (çatı) diye tabir edilen iki özel fiil şekli vardır:

Active voice (Aktif voice (çatı))
Passive voice(Pasif voice (çatı))

The “active voice” is the “normal” voice. This is the voice that we use most of the time. You are probably already familiar with the “active voice”.
(“Active voice” diye tabir edilen aktif çatı “normal” çatıdır.Bu en sık kullandığımız çatıdır.Sizler muhtemelen “active voice” çatısına halihazırda aşinasınızdır.)

In the “active voice”, the object receives the action of the verb:
(Aktif çatıda, tümleç fiilin işlevini üstlenir.)

Example (Örnek):
Cats eat fish.
(Kediler balık yerler.)

The “Passive Voice” is less usual. In the passive voice, the subject receives the action of the verb:
(“Passive Voice” kullanımı daha azdır.”Pasif çatıda”, özne fiilin işlevini üstlenir.)

Example (Örnek):
Fish are eaten by cats.
(Balık kediler tarafından yenilir.)

The object of the active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb:
(Etken fiilin tümleci edilgen fiilin öznesi haline gelir:)

Example (Örnek):
ACTIVE: Everybody drinks water. (water is the object )
(AKTİF: Herkes su içer. (su burada tümleçtir))

PASSIVE: Water is drunk by everyone. (water is the subject )
(PASİF: Su herkes tarafından içilir. ( su burada öznedir))

The structure of the passive voice is very simple:
(Pasif çatının yapısı çok kolaydır:)

Present Simple Passive: subject + am/is/are + past participle
(Pasif Geniş Zaman: özne + am/is/are + geçmiş zaman sıfat-fiili)

Past Simple Passive: subject + was/were + past participle
(Pasif Di’li Geçmiş Zaman: Özne + was/were + geçmiş zaman sıfat-fiili)

The main verb is always in its past participle form.
(Esas fiil daima daima geçmiş zaman sıfat-fiili şeklindedir.)

We use the passive when:
(Pasif halin kullanıldığı durumlar:)

-We want to make the active object more important
(-Aktif tümleci daha önemli göstermek istediğimiz durumlarda.)

-We do not know the active subject
(-Aktif özneyi bilmediğimiz durumlarda.)

-The active subject is obvious
(-Aktif öznenin kim olduğu belli olduğu durumlarda.)

Examples (Örnekler):
President Kennedy was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald. -Here the president being killed is the focus-
(Başkan Kennedy Lee Harvey Oswald tarafından öldürüldü. -Burada öldürülen başkan odaktadır-)

My wallet was stolen at the concert last night. -We don’t know who stole the wallet-
(Cüzdanım geçen geceki konserde çalındı. -Cüzdanın kimin tarafından çalındığını bilmiyoruz-)

(Hırsız bu sabah olay yerine yakın tutuklandı. -Polisin onu tutukladığı açık, böylece bunu belirtmemize gerek yok-)

In passive sentences we can use “by” to say “who” or “what” did the action. This is called “the agent”.
(Pasif cümlelerde, eylemi kimin yada neyin yaptığını belirtmek için “by” kullanabiliriz.Buna “agent” (etken olan kişi/şey) denir.)

Example (Örnek):
This dress was worn by Marilyn Monroe. -Here; Marilyn Monroe is the “agent”-.
(Bu elbise Marilyn Monroe tarafından giyilmişti. -Burada Marilyn Monroe “agent”-)

To make questions in the passive voice we use the pattern: Question word + Auxiliary Verb + Subject + Main Verb
(Pasif çatı şeklinde soru sorabilmek maksadı ile şu yapı şablonunu kullanırız: Soru kelimesi + Yardımcı Fiil + Özne + Esas Fiil)

Example (Örnek):

(Pirinç nerede yetişir?)

Where are Audi cars manufactured?
(Audi arabaları nerede üretilir?)

INGILIZCE PHRASAL VERBS – ÖBEKSI FIILLER – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Phrasal verbs are part of a large group of verbs called “multi-word verbs”. Phrasal verbs and other multi-word verbs are an important part of the English language.

Multi-word verbs, including phrasal verbs, are very common, especially in spoken English. A multi-word verb is a verb like “pick up”, “turn on” or “get on with”. For convenience, many people refer to all multi-word verbs as phrasal verbs.

These verbs consist of a “basic verb + another word or words”. The other word(s) can be prepositions and/or adverbs. The two or three words that make up multi-word verbs form a short “phrase” – which is why these verbs are often all called “phrasal verbs”.

The important thing to remember is that a multi-word verb is still a verb. “Get” is a verb, “get up”, is also a verb, but a different verb. “Get” and “get up” are two different verbs. They do not have the same meaning. So you should treat each multi-word verb as a separate verb, and learn it like any other verb.

(Öbeksi fiiller “multi-word verbs” (çoklu-kelimeli fiiller) denilen geniş fiiller grubunun bir parçasıdırlar. Öbeksi fiiller ve başka çoklu-kelimeli fiiller İngiliz dilinin önemli bir parçasını teşkil ederler.

Çoklu-kelimeli fiiller, öbeksi fiiller dahil, özellikle konuşulan İngilizcede çok yaygındırlar.Bir çoklu-kelimeli fiil, “pick up”, “turn on” veya “get on with” gibi bir fiildir.

NB: Phrasal verbs are usually used informally in everyday speech as opposed to the more formal Latinate verbs, such as “to get together” rather than “to congregate”, “to put off” rather than “to postpone”, or “to get out” rather than “to exit”. They should be avoided in academic writing.
(NOT: Öbeksi fiiller genellikle günlük konuşmada, daha resmi olan Latince kökenli fiillerin yerine, gayri resmi şekilde kullanılır.”To congregate” yerine “to get together” , “to postpone” yerine “to put off”, veya “to exit” yerine daha çok “to get out” gibi. Akademik yazımda kullanımlarından kaçınılmalıdır.)

Making complaints: (Şikayetde bulunmak için:)

I’m sorry, but I’ve got a bit of a problem. (Pardon, ancak küçük bir sorunum var)

I’m afraid I’ve got a complaint. (Korkarım bir şikayetim olacak)

I’m sorry, but I think there’s something wrong with (the TV). (Pardon, ancak (TV ile ilgili) bir terslik var sanırım)

Making requests: (Talepde bulunmak için:)

I wonder if you could check for me? (Benim için kontrol edebilirmisin diye merak etmiştim)

I wonder if I could have some more towels, please? (Birkaç tane daha havlu alabilirmiyim diye merak etmiştim, lütfen?)

Could I speak to the manager, please? (Müdür ile konuşabilirmiyim, lütfen?)

Could you help me? (Bana yardımcı olabilirmisiniz?)

Would you mind sending someone to look at it? (Buna bakmak için birilerini gönderebilirmiydiniz acaba?)

After I wonder if I/you could and Could I/you we use the infinitive.

(“I wounder if/You could ve Could I/you” dan sonra mastarı kullanırız.)

eg. I wonder if you could help me? (Örnek: Bana yardımcı olabilirmisiniz diye merak etmiştim?)

Could you help me?(Bana yardımcı olabilirmisiniz?)

After Would you mind we use verb + ing.(“Would you mind” dan sonra fiil + ing kullanırız.)

eg. Would you mind opening the door?(Örnek : Kapıyı açabilirmiydiniz acaba?)

TIP: I wonder if I/you could…? and Would you mind…? are more polite than Can/Could I…?

(İPUCU: “I wonder if I / you could…?” ve “Would you mind…?” “Can/Could I…?” dan daha nazik ifadelerdir.)

INGILIZCE SUBJECT QUESTIONS – ÖZNE SORULARI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMLARI

Çoğu soru çeşidi nesne soruları şeklindedir.

Most questions are object questions, that is, they ask about an object.

eg. Where do you live? Where have you been? Why are you studying English?
(Örnek: Nerede yaşıyorsun? Neredeydin? Neden İngilizce çalışıyorsun?)

However, there are also subject questions which we use to ask about a subject.
(Aynı zamanda, özne hakkında sorular soran “özne sorularıda” vardır.)

These questions are asked using Who? What? or Which?
(Bu sorular “Who? What? ve Which?” kullanılarak sorulur.)

For example: (Örneğin:)

Who directed the film? NOT Who did direct the film? (Filmi kim yönetti?)

What happened yesterday? NOT What did happen yesterday? (Dün ne oldu?)

Which car costs the most? NOT Which car does cost the most? (Arabalardan hangisi en çok tutuyor?)

NB: Subject questions have the same word order as positive sentences.
(Not: Özne soruları olumlu cümleler ile aynı cümle yapısına sahiptir.)

We don’t use auxiliary verbs in subject questions.
(Özne sorularında “yardımcı fiil” (auxiliary verb) kullanılmaz.)

INGILIZCE QUANTIFIERS – NICELIK SIFATLARI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Nicelik sıfatları, tam sayı belirtmeden, bir şeyin niceliğini veya miktarını belirtmek için kullanılırlar.

Quantifiers are words that are used to state quantity or amount of something without stating the actually number.

Quantifiers answer the questions “How many?” and “How much?”

(Nicelik sıfatları “Kaç Tane?” ve “Ne Kadar?” sorularını cevaplar. )

Quantifiers can be used with plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns.

(Nicelik sıfatları çoğul sayılabilen isimler ve sayılamayan isimler ile birlikte kullanılabilirler.)

Quantifiers must agree with the noun. There are 3 main types of quantifiers:

(Nicelik sıfatları isim ile uyuşmalıdırlar.3 temel nicelik sıfatı çeşidi bulunmaktadır:)

1) Quantifiers that are used with plural countable nouns;

(Çoğul sayılabilen isimler ile birlikte kullanılan nicelik sıfatları)

2) Quantifiers that are used with uncountable nouns; and

(Sayılamayan isimler ile birlikte kullanılan nicelik sıfatları; ve)

3) Quantifiers that are used with either plural countable nouns or uncountable nouns.

(Çoğul sayılabilen isimler veya sayılamayan isimler ile birlikte kullanılan nicelik sıfatları.)

With plural countable nouns we can use:(Çoğul sayılabilen isimler ile:)

a few, not many(“a few”, “not many” kullanabiliriz.)

With uncountable nouns we can use:(Sayılamayan isimler ile:)

a bit of, a little, not much (“a bit of”, “a little”, “not much” kullanabiliriz.)

With both we can use:(İkisi ile birlikte:)

some, any, a lot of/lots of (“some”, “any”, “a lot of/lots of” kullanabiliriz.)

A few, not many, a bit of, a little and not much mean a small quantity

(“A few, not many, a bit of, al ittle ve not much” kullanımı küçük bir miktar anlamına gelir.)

eg. There are a few apples./ There aren’t many apples.

(örnek Orada birkaç elma var./ Orada fazla elma yok.)

There is a bit of milk in the fridge./ There is a little milk in the fridge./ There isn’t much milk in the fridge.

(Buzdolabında biraz süt var./ Buzdolabında az miktarda süt var./ Buzdolabında fazla süt bulunmuyor.)

A lot of/ lots of means a large quantity.

(“A lot of/lots of” büyük – çok miktar anlamına gelir.)

eg. There are lots of shoes on sale./ There are a lot of shoes on sale.

(örnek Satışta bir sürü ayakkabı bulunmaktadır./ Satışta bir çok ayakkabı bulunmaktadır.)

We use some in positive sentences and offers.

(“Some” olumlu cümlelerde ve tekliflerde kullanılır.)

eg. There is some rice in the cupboard.(Örnek: Rafta biraz pirinç var.)

Would you like some more tea?(Biraz daha çay ister miydiniz?)

We use any in negative sentences and questions.

(“Any” olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde kullanılır.)

eg. There aren’t any pictures on the walls.

(Örnek: Duvarlarda hiç resim yok.)

Do you have any clothes to wash?

(Yıkanacak herhangi bir çamaşırın var mı?)

We can use “No” to mean not any.

(“No” hiç anlamında anlamında kullanılabilir.)

eg. There is no coffee. = There isn’t any coffee.

(Örnek: Hiç kahve yok.)

TIP: We don’t usually use much or many in positive sentences.

(İPUCU: Genelde olumlu cümlelerde “much” veya “many” kullanılmaz.)

eg. I’ve got a lot of free time. NOT I have much free time.

(Örnek: Benim bir sürü boş vaktim bulunmakta. Benim çok boş vaktim bulunmakta şeklinde DEĞİL)

There are a lot of chairs. NOT There are many chairs.

(Orada bir çok sandaleye var. Orada çok sandaleye bulunmakta şeklinde DEĞİL)

INGILIZCE QUESTION WORD ORDER – SORU KELIMESI SIRALAMASI – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

İngilizce öğrenenler için direkt sorular sormak zor bir iş olabilir çünkü İngilizce’de özne ve yardımcı fiil ters çevirilerek soru cümleleri oluşturulur.

Asking direct questions is a difficult task for English learners primarily because in English we invert the subject and auxiliary verb in the interrogative form.

We usually follow the same pattern for forming questions in all tenses.
(Soru cümleleri genellikle tüm zamanlarda aynı kalıp kullanılarak oluşturulur.)

FORM: (Question word) + Auxiliary Verb + Subject + Main Verb? ( Q-A-S-V)

For Example: (Örneğin:)

How does he travel around London? (O Londra etrafında nasıl yolculuk eder?) Q=How, A=does, S=he, V=travel

When did they get married? (Onlar ne zaman evlendi?) Q=When, A=did, S=they, V=get

Which sport can he play? (O hangi sporu oynayabilir?) Q=Which sport, A=can, S=he, V=play

What is he doing at the moment? (O şimdi ne yapıyor?) Q=What, A=is, S=he, V=doing

How many times has he been to London? (O Londra’da kaç kere bulunmuş?) Q=How many times, A=has, S=he, V=been

Where is she going to study next year? (O seneye nerede öğrenim görecek?) Q=Where, A=is, S=she, V=going to study

For questions without question words we follow the same pattern, just without the question word.
(Soru kelimesi olmadan sorularda da, soru kelimesi çıkartılarak aynı kalıp kullanılır.)

For example: (Örneğin:)

Does she go to school? (Okula gidiyor mu?)

Did they go to Berlin yesterday? (Dün Berlin’e geldiler mi?)

Can he play cricket? (O cricket oynayabilir mi?)

Are you watching TV at the moment? (Şu an televizyon mu izliyorsun?)

Have you seen the Blue Mosque? (Sultan Ahmet Camii’sini (hiç) gördün mü? )

Is she going to study next year? (O gelecek sene öğrenim görecek mi?)

INGILIZCE PRESENT CONTINUOUS FOR FUTURE ARRANGEMENTS – GELECEKTEKI DÜZENLEMELER İÇIN ŞIMDIKI ZAMAN – TÜRKÇE KONU ANLATIMI

Another reason to use “Present Continuous” is for definite future arrangements. We usually know exactly when the arrangements are happening and are often the type of arrangements we can write in a diary. There is a suggestion that more than one person is aware of the event, and that some preparation has already happened.

Subject + to be + verb + ing
(Özne + to be + fiil + ing)

Examples (Örnekler):
I’m meeting Jim at the airport = and both Jim and I have discussed this.
(Jim ile hava alanında buluşacağız = ve Jim ve ben, ikimizde bu konuda konuştuk)

I am leaving tomorrow. = and I’ve already bought my train ticket.
(Yarın gidiyorum = ve ben şimdiden tren biletimi almış bulunuyorum)

We’re having a staff meeting next Monday = and all members of staff have been told about it.
(Gelecek pazartesi bir personel toplantımız olacak = ve tüm kadro üyeleri bu konuda bilgilendirildiler)

Is she seeing him tomorrow?
(Onu yarın görecek mi?)

He isn’t working next week.
(O gelecek hafta çalışmayacak)

They aren’t leaving until the end of next year.
(Gelecek yılın sonuna kadar gitmeyecekler)

We are staying with friends when we get to Boston.
(Boston’a gittiğimiz zaman, arkadaşlarda kalacağız)

NB: in example (a), “seeing” is used in a continuous form because it means meeting.
(Not: Örnek (a)’da, “seeing” beraber gelmek anlamına geldiği için, devam eden bir durumu ifade edecek şekilde kullanılmaktadır.)

BE CAREFUL! The simple present is used when a future event is part of a programme or time-table. Notice the difference between:

(DİKKATLİ OLUN!Yalın şimdiki zaman, gelecekteki bir etkinliğin, bir programın veya zaman çizelgesinin parçası ise kullanılır.Aşağıdaki örnekler arasındaki farka bakın:)

We’re having a staff meeting next Monday.
(Gelecek pazartesi bir personel toplantımız olacak)

We have a staff meeting next Monday.(= we have a meeting every Monday, it’s on the time-table.)
(Gelecek pazartesi personel toplantımız var. (=her pazartesi bir toplantımız oluyor, bu zaman çizelgesinde kayıtlı))

TIPS (ÖNERİLER):
When we use the “Present Continuous” for future arrangements we usually use a future time phrase eg. “next weekend”, “on Saturday”, “in July”, etc.
(Gelecekteki düzenlemeler için şimdiki zamanı -Present Continuous for future arrangements- kullandığımız vakit, genellikle bir gelecek zaman cümle dizilimi kullanırız.Örnek : “next week”, “on Saturday”, “in July”, vs. gibi.)

We often use the “Present Continuous” to ask about people’s arrangements eg. “What are you doing this weekend”?

(Şimdiki zamanı (Present Continuous), kişilere hazırlıkları ile ilgili soru sormak için kullanırız.Örnek : What are you doing this weekend? (Bu hafta sonu ne yapıyorsunuz?))

The arrangement doesn’t have to be in the near future. The important thing about it is how certain we are about it.
(Hazırlığın yakın gelecekte olması gerekmiyor.Önemli olan, onun hakkında ne kadar emin olduğumuzdur.)

Example (Örnek):
We’re getting married in June next year.( We’ve decided on a date and booked a venue)
(Gelecek yıl haziranda evleneceğiz. (Bir tarih belirledik ve mekan rezervasyonunu gerçekleştirdik))

(NOT: “There is/are” ın gelecek zaman için kullanım şekli = “there will be”dir.)

The future of I can = I’ll be able to NOT I’ll can. We often use I think/ I don’t think… will…

(“I can” in gelecek zaman için kullanım şekli = “I’ll be able to”, “ I’ll can” DEĞİLDİR. Sıkça “I think/ I don’t think… will…” kullanırız.)

We also use will / won’t + infinitive for making decisions, offering and promising.

(Ayrıca will / won’t + mastar karar bildirmek, teklifte bulunmak ve vaatde bulunmak (söz vermek) için de kullanırız.)

Will / Won’t karar belirtmek örnek
